The Cadet Moms of West Point organization is kicking off what they hope will be a yearly event at the United States Military Academy - the Cadet Moms 5K at West Point to benefit The Fisher House Foundation. The run is set for August 25 - Ring Weekend for the 4th year cadets (or Firsties).
They've organized the run to support The Fisher House mission as a show of gratitude for all that the foundation has done for service members and their families, and in honor of the wounded service members who have served the United States as graduates of USMA. This year's race is dedicated especially to Nick Vogt, a 2010 West Point graduate. Nick was seriously wounded in Afghanistan, losing both legs. Nick's parents were able to be at his side through his months of recuperation thanks to the respite provided by The Fisher House in Germany and at Walter Reed/Bethesda. The Cadet Moms hope to raise enough funds to help The Fisher House continue to offer its 'comfort homes' for service members and their families.
Want to help? You can register for the race at http://www.active.com/5k-race/west-point-ny/cadet-moms-inaugural-5k... with a $30 fee. The registration deadline is Aug. 23. You can also make a donation to support the runners at http://www.active.com/donate/2012TeamFisherHouse/CadetMoms5K
They have already raised more than $4,000 towards a $5,000 goal, and more donations are sure to come in.
Let's all be a part of this winning combination!
