Trading Spaces, home improvement, funky furnishings????

Always feel like you are PCSing?
And when you do move, do you want to add a different twist to your new house or
apartment? I was not familiar with architectural salvage but have learned to
absolutely love it!! So exactly what is architectural salvage? Looking for fixtures,
woodwork, shelving, fireplace mantles, decorative metalwork,
light fixtures
- both vintage and relatively new? Then head on up to Baltimore...to Housewerks
at 1415 Bayard Street. The building itself is old and needs sprucing up but it is
beautiful if you are looking for salvage. I bought a vintage stand alone bathtub with
art deco feet - needed reglazing but was a great buy and one of a kind. Even the
proprietor said he's been "doing salvage" for over 20 years and has only met
one other tub like it! Beautiful porcelain sinks abound some taken from old schools
and some from Pennsylvania coal mines. There are giant letters that have come off
of movie or storefront marquis'. While you in BWI stop buy antother salvage shop
called Second Chance 1700 Ridgely Street Baltimore. This one is spread across many
buildings and has all sorts of salvage not necessarily architectural. You can get
doors, tubs, frigerators, stoves, reclaimed lumber. The have a good bit of commercial
grade kitchen appliances - fab stainless refrigerators!! So if you are looking for
"the different" to add a special touch to your place - spend a day in Baltimore
and have a look.
