I have been on a non stop mission to find unique places to see in DC. We found another great one to share with you this past week. You must go check out the Smithsonian's Postal Museum. It is just a hop, skip and a jump from the Union Station Metro stop on the Red Line. You simply get off the metro and walk next door to let the learning and fun begin.

The postal museum is a must stop for home schooling families. There is so much to do there and so much of it is hands on. Here you can see our girls trying to see how fast they could sort the mail.

We ventured around and learned about Benjamin Franklin and his role in the post office. We discovered the various ways mail has been moved throughout our country. We learned all about postage and why we have it. We learned about Owney, which was the girls favorite part. The girls other favorite part was learning about being a philatelist. They enjoyed learning about this new word and it's meaning. They are very proud of their current stamp collection. Last but certainly not least we went to the post office inside the museum and purchased some postcards and stamps so we could tell our family members far away about our adventure.

Here's their website so you can check it out. http://www.postalmuseum.si.edu/  You and your family will love being able to walk around in another great Smithsonian museum. When we went we were almost alone and truly enjoyed the lack of a crowd. The staff was super friendly and helpful. You'll want to also go check this museum out so you too can discover this hidden treasure.
