Last weekend we took a short road trip up to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Yellow Ribbon Fund partnered with the Blue and Gray Education Society to treat wounded warriors and their families to a peaceful day away from the hospital. Of course being a homeschooling families, I jumped at this opportunity. I have a tendency to jump opportunities to go somewhere I have never been before. I didn't realize that Gettysburg was so close to DC. I guess I should look at a map more closely, huh?!

We got up early last Saturday and enjoyed a beautiful drive up to Gettysburg. We really enjoyed the 90 minute drive through Maryland up to Pennsylvania. The fall colors provided a beautiful landscape for our family to enjoy. We met up with Yellow Ribbon Fund at the Visitor Center and then we got to go have lunch at the Dobbins House Tavern with several other families.

With full bellies, we began our drive around the battlefield. We stopped when the bus stopped and enjoyed the stories the Blue and Gray personnel told. While we were in our van we told our girls stories we found by using our iPhones. We took time to really enjoy and soak in the Gettysburg area. Here are my two favorites pictures from our trip.

Once we toured the battlegrounds, we then went inside the museum. Inside we watched the movie, viewed the cyclorama and then toured the museum. We truly enjoyed our day at Gettysburg. The best part of the day came when I was thanked by my family for insisting that we make the trip. You and your family should make the trip as well. You'll truly enjoy it.
